PA-DSS Validation and Security

With the release of the November 2nd, 2010 PA-DSS smart patches, Cougar Mountain Software Professional 2011 is now PA-DSS compliant. PA-DSS stands for Payment Application - Data Security Standards.  These standards are established by the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council and focus on credit/debit card security.

With the latest standards, we modified the application to ensure customer credit/debit card data is secure throughout the entire payment process. This includes additional security measures to ensure the installation discs or downloads are not compromised. One part of this installation security involves an MD5 hash value that is associated with each product install. You can download and use the MD5 utility to verify that your installation disc/download has not been manipulated by outside sources.

To use this free utility, follow the instructions listed on the Exact File website to download and install it.

To verify the MD5 hash value for a CD:

  1. Download the digest file from Customer Service Center. Make sure you download the digest file for the CD that was sent to you.
  2. In the MD5 Utility, select Test Digest from the menu.
  3. In the window that appears, enter the location of the digest file you downloaded in the Digest File to Test field.
  4. In the Base Folder for Files in Digest field, enter the path of the CD.
  5. Click Go. Upon completion, a report is generated indicating if there were any errors in the automated comparison. Zero errors indicate safe files.

To verify the MD5 hash number for an ISO, service pack, or smart patch file:

  1. Download the CMS Professional update file from Customer Service Center.
  2. In the MD5 hash Utility, select Single File Checksums from the menu.
  3. In the window that appears, enter the path to the ISO, service pack, or smart patch file in the File field.
  4. Check only the MD5 check box.
  5. Click Go. Upon completion, an MD5 hash value is generated and displayed in a report window.
  6. Compare the generated value to the value listed for the file you downloaded on Customer Service Center's MD5 Digest Files and MD5 Hash Files.
  7. If you need assistance in verifying hash values, please contact support at 800 390 7053.
